Error using Conical Indenter data #25

Hi David,

I am using Sphero conical indenter but when I chose indenter as Conical in GUI it generates python code but gives an error in Abaqus, sees be; low image. Could you please have a look at it.

Could you please also let me know how to define indentation depth as by default it goes -200nm Deep in the surface. I am using 10um Sphero conical indenter, could you please let how can I put the radius in GUI.

Conical Indenter

Hi Qamar,

Originally this code was not designed for cono spherical tip, but just for conical tip with a spherical tip defect. Here the function to calculate the tip defect based on the transition between the spherical part and the conical part : https://github.com/DavidMercier/NIMS/blob/master/matlab_code/fem/tipRadius.m

And in your case you have to calculate this tip defect I think, knowing the cone angle and the spherical part radius. Then select Conical Indenter, set the tip defect and set the conical angle. But I'm afraid that if the spherical tip radius is too high, the way it is scripted in Abaqus, the geometry can't converge.

Finally I added a step into the next function to add manually in a dialog box, the indentation depth: https://github.com/DavidMercier/NIMS/blob/master/matlab_code/fem/python4abaqus.m
