Can't create account or login

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Click Soashable Signup on the login window.
2. Enter "jeffjensen" as user id.
3. Enter 8 character pw, including weird characters like comma, period, slash.
4. The create account window does not close.  I must click cancel or the X
close window buttons.
5. The screen refreshes.
6. I try to login with the newly created account, but authentication failure.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
 a) I expect the register window to close.  I saw that it did not close,
and had to manually close it.
 b) I expect a message that says "Account successfully created." or "Could
not create account because a, b, c, d.".  I saw no message.
 c) I expect to successfully login after creating an account.  I saw an
"authentication error" message, with no idea as to why.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Lack of UI feeback. Registration works behind the scenes but there is no 
indication.
I agree this is not acceptable.

"Work around" is to assume registration succeeded if it doesn't give an error, 
and
log in.
