I've backported the following commit to solve issues I was having with sending date and datetime fields to Odoo.

Backport of 876024f4e6c13a7f22ec47addbb1dae4f94b3c43:

Content of this commit is a merge between Franck Gevaerts' work proposed in PR #17 and some refactoring/cleanup of that same method.
