Expandable hierarchical view would be nice otherwise one can see very few items. Current view is a song list view. What I propose is an expandable album view.

Thank you for the great player.

Attached is an implementation by Splean (an XMMS2 client) though with too small album covers.

this is normally called "media library". i'm not sure when to expect it implemented, but there is some ongoing work in this direction. it might be done before the summer, but it depends on the amount of spare time i have, and other priorities.

i'm renaming the request, and keeping it open to make it searchable by other people to avoid more duplicates.

Thank you. I've switched to Linux a couple of months ago and tried all the audio apps. Deadbeef is the best and the sanest one. Most and best knowns are not even usable. And I'm glad to find its developer to be communicable and sane as well. This I find rare too.

So, what's with this issue?

it is planned to implement this as part of 0.6 series. all necessary infrastructure is now in place, so should be easy enough. i'd say, expect it around 0.6.3.

I used foobar2000 and deadbeef is almost everything I ever wanted from foobar2000, got it setup in a hour very easily.

Only thing I miss now is media library, I imagine some tree view with directories plus some browser which would let me browse by artists and most importantly by SEPARATE tags. I use tags like this, for example in Warpaint: psychedelic;psychedelic rock;indie;shoegaze;female vocalist;ethereal;dream pop;USA;California

So in my media library there would be bunch of albums tagged psychedelic or California and I would just wanna playlist with all music from California. I guess bandcamp.com works like this.

So should we expect it in the next release? :)

The "tree view" bit is already done. Go looking for 'filebrowser' plugin. Though not to be understood as a "media library replacement", it will already make things much easier for you.

Maybe future versions of filebrowser will also include a search functionality where you can directly search in a definite tree.

(My personal method is currently very ridiculous: I'm keeping a huge all-in-one playlist which will find everything I wish to find, but of course not in fractions of seconds.)

I want propose some additional feature of media library: in fb2k it's one directory -- and it's pertinent most of the time, but, there is lack of functionality if someone want to monitor 2 directories, that has 2 different parent directories. For instance, I have regular "music" folder and also "processing" folder, which accumulates music that in queue to listen/rate/delete/move to "music". Though it doesn't seem like critical -- I suppose if there is no media library implementation -- ability to monitor more than 1 location will be great.
