Wired Network not initializing #173

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install MPlayer CE 0.4
2. Set network debug flag
3. run mplayer

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected: Messages about initializing network, then the IP.
Instead: I get an error message about initializing the network.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Mplayer CE 0.4 on a european Wii, System Menu 3.2. No Modchip, no DVDx.
Original Nintendo USB LAN Adaptor.

Please provide any additional information below.

I hat this setup working (playback via SMB and wired LAN) with 0.21c.
However as my network setup changed drastically, smb on 0.21c would no
longer work for unknown reasons. I switched to 0.4 and got this message
about the network not being initialized. I went back to 0.3a, network is
working, SMB playback with short clips from a debian lenny samba server works.

This could be a dup of #172.

Known bug with USB network adaptor. Will be fixed in next release. Thanks for
the
report though!

Hi, we are working on this bug and were wondering if you could test a new build
to
see if we have fixed it. If so please post here or join #mplayer_ce on
irc.efnet.net. Thanks!

I'd be glad to help out with testing.

So, here are the reslts from my tests.

First, some correction about my setup:
European Wii, System Menu 3.3E, DVDx, no USB 2.0, Nintendo LAN Adaptor
Samba server is an updated Debian Lenny, stock configuration except for the
added
video share (no keep alive stuff).

Network debug shows that the Wii gets an IP. Then it says "too many errors",
smb1 ok,
and then four more "too many errors". Browsing the SMB share through the menu is
working fine.

I tried playing a file via SMB (XVID/mpga) and mplayer crashed badly (black
screen,
ugly sound) after about 10 seconds into the file.

Next thing I played the same file via USB - 45 minutes of uninterrupted
entertainment.

Another try via SMB: the file just ended after about 5 minutes. This time it
didn't
look like a crash; I just got sent back to the menu. However, the SMB share no
longer
works: Opening a file results in nothing happening (menu just sits there).
Exiting
the share and reentering gives an "Error reconnectiong to share1". Exiting
mplayer
and restarting it allows me to open the share again.

I decided to see if this was related to the keep-alive problem and added "keep
alive
= 0" to my smb.conf. Mplayer still crashed (black screen, hanging sound), it
just
happened much later. I wasn't sitting next to the TV during this, so I only
know that
it happend way later than the initial 5 minutes.

Anything else I should try?

With the late-sunday version I got one 45-minute file done without a problem.
When I
tried a second time, mplayer crashed after about half an hour. I had keep alive
= 0
on for the first one, off for the second - but I don't know if thats related.

Just a quick question; do you have the USB 2.0 cIOS installed?

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
nope, I only installed DVDx (and HBC, obviously).

OK. Do you have any objections to installing the USB2.0 cIOS and testing if it
works
with that? I have a feeling it won't work, but if it doesn't rodries is
working on a
fix for it. If you are willing to test please come to the IRC channel and give
rodries a buzz. (That goes for anyone else reading this as well).

Thanks!

I tried, but even with some expert assistance could not get cIOS USB2 to
install on
my wii. Sorry.

I gave it another try and got cIOS USB2 beta3 to install. Switching DVDx to IOS
202
caused ftpii and mplayer_ce to dump core. Switching back to IOS36 and network
was
back up.

Can anyone reading this using a USB LAN adaptor please join #mplayer_ce on
EFnet to
test a new version which should have this issue fixed. Thanks.
