If a trigger or track has been configured to use a MIDI device, and is being used in an environment where that MIDI device can’t be found, it preserves its setting under the reasonable assumption that it might want to be used with that device when it is available in the future.
If the device is never coming back, it is easy enough to switch to a different device using the MIDI Output menu, except in cases where there are currently no MIDI devices available. And if the trigger or track was actually designed to work with custom expressions that don’t even need MIDI, this is a problem.
