Once you start to see the news as lawyers, and you are the judge, and the best way to find truth is to listen to both. You aren't an expert, but you can listen to experts with a vested interest in the answer being on their side, and you can trust they will surface the best arguments for their side
my best examples of this currently, for right/left are:
this example of people saying "left wing people are nuts! they are tearing down this stop sign!" (but it sounds way less crazy if you read the other side) - TODO add link
Trump saying "you won't need to vote again", the NYT took that as him saying "i will end democracy", but it's clear if you listen to the original thing that he's saying, "I know you guys don't come out to vote regularly, but we need you this time, and you can go back to not voting after because the stakes will be lower"
