Code base largely lacks documentation

the code base currently critically lacks documentation, both inside the code (comments) as well as external standalone documentation.

Addressing this issue would likely involve the following

creating some sort of script that creates a blank web page entry for a function,class or other part of the code
making sure those web pages are available online
creating vast amounts of doc comments

it should be noted that this issue would only be addressed after #41 has been dealt with as not waiting on those changes would just create more work, tho a web page template could be created regardless of the status #41
