Going through tutorial, noticed this part (might) not be syncing up, unless I'm missing something. Made the edit that might be appropriate.

Put in a bug fix for validate_sequence_template ... when I went through the tutorial it wasn't working as expecting with "enum". Working now... please double check to make sure this is what was intended

should probably split this into 2 PRs
