Have Obelisks (like the ones built on the beta server right now, near spawn) that can be generated (after great effort, and not very often) by a player.

General Protection Stuff
[x] Track the owner of the structure.
[x] Protect a general area around the structure from griefing*!.
[ ] Allow obelisk protection to be overridden during certain conditions (i.e. a coordinated raid).
[ ] When the player that owns an obelisk is offline for a certain amount of time, the obelisk gains extra (temporary) protection that prevents it from being disabled.
[ ] When the player that owns an obelisk is offline for an extended period of time, it becomes permanently disabled.
Obelisk Communities/Clusters
[ ] Make shared protection areas into effective 'protected communities'.
[ ] Have a limit of how many obelisks can be part of the community.
[ ] Protected communities need to have a majority of the obelisks disabled before protection is lost, but it becomes community wide.
[ ] When an Obelisk is in danger of being permanently disabled, and is part of a protected community, other members should be given an opportunity--at a slight inconvenience--to claim it as theirs.
Obelisk Behavior
[x] Track a sort of 'health' for the structure when attacked by opposite-team players. When the health runs out they become disabled.
[ ] Allow obelisks to be targeted by player abilities.
[ ] Obelisks should have the ability to auto-cast deity abilities on approaching members of the opposite team before they are disabled.
[ ] Obelisks should be aggressive towards other characters of the same player, regardless of their alliance (to prevent characters from sharing the same space).
Teleport Items
[ ] Divine items that allow teleport to a specified structure (perhaps chosen by a right click) should be made available at great cost. Obelisks obviously are structures so this makes sense.
[ ] The finishing touch of the item should happen after selecting a structure, and it should have a set durability that shows how many more uses it has.
[ ] Cheaper to make items may not be able to teleport to an Obelisk at all, due to high cost.
