We have a few ideas for this, potentially we could do all of them.

A matchmaking system that matches you against a worthy opponent of your same skill level.
Make a temporary character (of sorts) and allocate provided SP before a battle.
Arena's end could be based on extra health (1000 HP?) instead of time limit.

The arena would be pay to enter (with some sort of either currency or T.B.D.) and you'd win a prize if you survive.
