a bit of collecting moods: duckduckgo shows filters on hover on desktop: image google shows a lot of dropdown in advanced search: image dynatrace shows filters upon clicking into the search field (but it's actually not a search, but a filter field, it also already executes a search, so reimplementing this would be overkill and not really intentional. just posting this for design): image here's something with jquery: image

maybe we don't really want a search (at least not primary), but rather a filter. if you search for your missing cat or if someone is missing a cat you found, you probably just want to filter by colors and date, maybe gender and eyecolors. characteristics and behaviour doesn't really make sense to search for, neither does name. it'd be nice to be able to filter by location, e.g. maybe 20km around X or something
