Hey, thanks for sharing this idea in here! Technically it seems totally feasible, it would be a cool new feature. However, I don't know if we should put it in the main game directly, as we strive to keep the game mostly faithful to the original. This brings the question of supporting mods, or optional features, such as new ships. Maybe in a dedicated new option menu?

There's a bit about this at https://github.com/JeodC/Descent3/issues/3, help yourself. It's just documentation. InsanityBringer also looked into different mod support methods in the past.

Interesting, thanks for the link! We'll see how this could be done when we're done with the asset finding logic changes
Thanks guys. This would be a dream come true!

This was somewhat do-able back in the day with Table.gam replacement, look into the Pyromania mod https://sectorgame.com/d3/downloads/?nav=display&file=68. It greatly expanded the number of playable ships and modified/added weapons as well. But unfortunately all the work updating and modernizing the code has broken quite a few single and multiplayer levels and mods.
I originally posted this on the descent reddit, and was recommended to post it here.
I'm not a coder, so can't do this myself or I would.
Get this... someone should use the model of the Pyro from the D2 cutscenes, and import it into D3 as a playable ship!
Surely that's feasible? It would be a dream of mine to be able to fly it in-game, as for me it's the gold standard Pyro. What do you think? Is anyone up for the task?
