Hi,
can I disable smileys completely?) or, at least, restore my lovely enter button
that has turned into "smiley"

Which layout mode is this happening in? The 5-row layout should always have an
Enter key, but I've mostly kept the default Gingerbread behavior in 4-row mode.

I'm not sure I want to add yet another option, I'd rather fix this via
supporting the planned but long-delayed customizable keymaps.

 4-row mode.
Unfortunately, 5 rows take up way too much screen space to be used, at least on
my device...wise men said that "smiley" problem was kind of android legacy to
remain in any keyboard. can be endured but really pisses off(

I do want to provide the choice, I just think it makes more sense to do this as
part of allowing user-customizable key maps instead of adding even more special
cases that make it hard to support later.

Have you tried the experimental compact 5-row layout? That's a compromise
between the full 5-row and the legacy one:

Sure, a universal solution would be better than permanent fixes. I hope we'll
see the best results of your hard work)
I've tried the experimental mode but found it a bit inconvenient too, too much
keys I wil not use, sorry). Large keys and customizable dimensions were the
criteria of keyboard choice for me - well, someone else may wish smth else...
Otherwise, it's just difficult to type when moving, or in a vehicle, or
whatever...
In addition, the experimental mode is us qwerty, and I need Russian mainly)
