So sorry, I've only just noticed this issue. I must have notification disabled. The ground should go from Pin 2 on the Solis connector through to ground on the ESP8266. My setup is only for reading information so the TX is not needed. I do not sends any commands to the inverter. Hope that helps.
Looks like I missed the green wire that bridges the ground on the RS485 board. See photo below (sorry). :o(
How does the ESP get ground connection since ground from the solis plug is not connected ? RS485 ground is NOT connected to logic ground on the Rs485 to TTL converter board. And without TX connected, how is the ESP supposed to send a MODBUS command to the inverter ?
