Originally, Felienne proposed:

Number of cells, empty and non-empty cells, formulas
Number of distinct formulas (same R1C1 notation = more or less calculating the same thing)
Number of worksheets
Use of named ranges (how many, how big, what names)
Number of functions, unique functions
Use of user-defined functions, which means there is VBA in the spreadsheet (but the implication only goes one way)
Use of fixed numbers in formulas
All sorts of analyses on how many formulas connect to what others, like the percentage of links to external worksheet, and external files even.

Cool, thanks! UDFs is user defined functions? And RelatedWorksheets is cross-sheet references? What counts as an error?

What counts as an error? An Excel error: #DIV/0, #NAME etc.
