That's a commit that addresses various little bits and pieces that I think could improve the boilerplate. I've not done it as a set of commits and pull requests, as I can leave it up to you to pick and choose what you like from it. I've commented the commit with my reasoning, but am happy to provide further explanation if something isn't clear.
