New Question: Video Creators (+ 2023 Improvements) #53

I think it'd be nice to add a question to highlight video creators. This could be YouTubers, TikTokers, Twitch streamers… Here is the list I have so far, in no particular order (in this case it's probably best to use the name of the channel instead of the name of the person).

ThePrimeagen I have found incredibly useful and entertaining. Ryan Carniato streams just about every Friday about optimizations, building SolidJS and other things. A definite go-to for me.

We can definitely include a lot of the suggestions above for the next survey.

Maybe one thing we should decide is a metric by which to rank them? Or should the list just be randomized? And should there be a minimum criteria for inclusion in the list, or should the list include anybody we can think of? And should this be an actual checkbox list, or rather an autocomplete field using the list as prefilled sources?

The thing to keep in mind (at least if one of the goals is highlighting diversity) is that any kind of freeform or autocomplete field means we lose the chance to proactively expose survey takers to new people they might not have heard of.

Of course, those same people can surface in the survey results if they get enough votes, but that might also not be the case (see 2021 People question which didn't end up featuring that many individuals who are part of minoritized segments).

Here are some more creators that haven't been mentioned yet-- I found some of them by searching Reddit threads to see which channels people have recommended as helpful as they are learning to code.

There are just a lot of content creators-- maybe one way to make the list more focused would be to only list creators who create primarily educational content, not career advice or vlogs?

After some more thinking about this, I think I will revert to a freeform field for the 2023 edition of the survey. This seems like the fairest way to address the issue, and will let us "reset" all resources questions to a baseline of non-biased responses.
