I had a case where the IP address shown on the index page was from the inet6 field, which is totally useless info.
I am now displaying independently the Ethernet and Wlan0 addresses. It's useful when you're setting up your Pi for the first time to be able to see both IPs.
Caveat: this approach is dependent on the formatting of the output from ifconfig
