See the section on vignettes in R Packages. This vignette should:

Clearly and concisely outline some of the main challenges in creating good visualisations
Outline how this package addresses those issues
Point to other good resources, including government guidance and other R packages

So a couple of thoughts for me in no particular order:

DPI should be 300, seems to be the nicest minimum
Aspect ratio of 9:16 (portrait or landscape) or 0.6
bar charts ought to be horizontal (unfortunately the theme_dfe_* will need an argument to switch the lines around)
