MaterialEntity: why not refer to DwC and make the definition more precise? #139

Suggested Change to Definition

I suggest a change to the definition of this term to mirror dwc:MaterialEntity and make it much more clear as to what a "MaterialEntity" is. In addition, I don't think a material thing can be "part" of a digital thing, so instead of "part of" change to "associated with".

An entity that can be identified, exists for some period of time, and consists in whole or in part of physical matter while it exists that is associated with the Digital Specimen.

Dear Teresa, Thanks for these very valuable comments. A solution could be to describe the specimen as a whole also as a material entity associated with the digital specimen. Then we can also get rid of the duplication in fields there currently is between the digital specimen and materialEntity class. Will discuss that further with the dev team. What I would like to avoid is a hierarchy of material entities (other than describing this as an entity relationship) but I think that is not necessary with this solution. We should make sure though that a specimen can still be referenced in literature though the digital specimen DOI.
