The client-side devices are can only run Python 3.9, as cygwin currently only supports Python 3.9 (link).
Will need to verify that existing code and future code on the client side remains compatible with Python 3.9 until the next major cygwin update is released (link).

pre-commit checks on files in src/murfey/client/* run from a Python 3.9 environment look clean.
