Re. Tate Exchange Associates: We would like to invite the Digital Leaders from the TEX associate group ‘London Connected Learning Centre’ to collaborate with us, and also enlist their help in activating their wider social media network to participate in our project. We would also like to invite the Skills Exchange duo, ‘People’s Bureau’ (based in Elephant & Castle) and their network to become collaborators.

Title

ELECTR“O”ACTIVE GRID - a Participatory Collaboration

Short paragraph for context (what you will do) or if you are offering to be a part of the collective & join other projects, what you can offer etc.

In the lead up to this event CYLAND members will work collaboratively with the Digital Maker Collective to explore technological solutions for the ELECTR“O”ACTIVE GRID with UAL students through virtual (SKYPE) and actual workshops at Chelsea. At Tate Exchange, these workshops will have developed into a co-developed collaboration that engages local and international participation in our co-produced ELECTR“O”ACTIVE GRID. Developed by Anna and the CYLAND media lab as “O” and made from interconnected polypropylene tubes, the grid will be populated with Arduinos, Rasberry Pi, small screens, subverted children’s toys, projectors and any kind of electrical hybrid device. It will then be programmed to become an interactive participatory platform at Tate Exchange.

How will the public get involved
There will be workshops running alongside the ELECTR“O”ACTIVE GRID that invite the public to get involved in coding Arduinos at most levels of ability, subverting Pound Shop toys, making tech-process-oriented film clips for screens and other participatory activities that will populate the grid.

Type of event it is (workshop, intervention, gathering, performance etc)

This will be a series of workshops that engage with the ELECTR“O”ACTIVE GRID as interactive participatory platform.

Key words to help identify themes

Interactive – participatory - Open Source - subverting the digital - engaging local and international communities

Please ensure your proposal responds/relates to most of the below Tate Exchange Principles :

How is art making a difference to peoples lives and society?

  1. Inspire diverse audiences locally, nationally and internationally with new ways of engaging with Tate’s collection and art more broadly
  2. Invite and enable the audience to become collaborators in helping shape the programme, activities and outcomes.
  3. Embody the values of openness, generosity, risk and trust
  4. Make a connection to the annual Tate Exchange theme: Exchange
  5. Explore new ways of thinking about art, society, the museum and its changing relation to the public

We need to add 'screens' to the equipment list.
