As noted in the previous PR #7 - the whole calculate.py file isn't doing anything. Remove it to make the code easier to read.
The main argument against this is that the whole particle_dc SM is soon to be replaced with generic sensing_dc
However, it's been 6 weeks since the original below commits and we are nowhere near thinking about it, so why not do the housekeeping we can.
