Some file editing programs use an update strategy that goes: write new file, delete old file, rename new file to old file name. This has the benefit of protecting the original file should a problem occur while writing the new one, but destroys any meta data to the old file when it is deleted.
Many file editors replace the contents of a file in place, and so do not have this problem. But where it does occur, I know of no way round it other than to backup and restore the meta data.

Hello, I dont fully understand the issue here. I have Autodesk inventor ipt, iam files and the iproperties (metadata inside the files) are still present.
So far this is a great program. Regards Warren.
Translated with google Translate:
After editing and saving .ipt .iam .ipn files the metadata is missing.
Thanks a lot!
