• brave Sync through their own server or transfer data peer-to-peer?
• Could we support the same compatible functionality as 'import digital footprint' etc?

Maybe they're sharing secret key by this way and encrypt data then send it on the network

Yep. I’m not sure if they go p2p or through Brave’s own server.

Extensibility is surely a criteria in designing YNCI.

Pretty sure from a couple Twitter exchanges about this, Brave is using their own servers.
