For around the last 2 weeks I have experienced intermittent delays ranging from 5-30s when reentering the app. I have not noticed these delays while navigating within the app. I've been trying to pin down specific sequences and it's been hard.

Using the in-app browser
following: 1.5k, followers 336
iPhone SE 2020 w/256GB, available 85 GB
I'll give some examples:
Open a post w/a link; Decide I want to save in external browser and click share, select external browser; when external browser (in my case Vivaldi) opens and page starts loading click Done button in upper left and in-app browser is displayed. Sometimes there is then no response to clicking in-app browser Done button in upper left -- this is actually a delay in the app and at some point in time (5-30s) in app browser closes and am back in main app.
Sometimes in similar sequence clicking in-app browser Done button in upper left works with no delay but when main app appears the program appears hung. I will tap-slide to scroll several times and no response. Those UI events appear to be queued because again after a random delay (5-30s) the scroll will be performed. The scroll distance is appears to be appropriate for the previous number of tap-slides performed.
Click home button and re-enter app; main app window displays; intermittent random delay (5-30s).
I will do more testing and add to a comment to see if this if these delays are at all associated with having a large number of posts not yet read in Home timeline. This number can get to 800 or more if I haven't opened app for several hours.
The common symptom is a a random delay (5-30s) and during this time the app is unresponsive.
