Popular Indo-Chinese recipe, Honey Chili Potatoes, owes it flavor to honey and fiery red chilies. I like the deep fried restaurant version but I prefer the healthy home made method where the potatoes are baked before being tossed in a sweet and hot sauce and sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Very flavorful and looks appealing in the serving plate.

Sesame Honey Chilli Potatoes Recipe

Prep & Cooking: 30 mts

Serves: 4-5 persons

Cuisine: Indo-Chinese

. Ingredients:

3 potatoes, peeled and cut into fingers like for french fries

2 crushed garlic cloves

1 tsp red chilli pwd

2 tsps tomato sauce

salt to taste

1 1/2 tbsps oil

For sauce:

1 tbsp tomato sauce

1 tsp red chilli sauce

2 tsps vinegar

2 crushed garlic cloves

1 1/2 tbsps honey

1 tsp chopped coriander leaves (optional) or spring onion greens

1/2 tbsp oil

1 Combine potato fingers, oil, red chilli pwd, tomato sauce, crushed garlic and salt and place in a ziplock bag and shake well. Grease a baking tray and spread the potato fingers on the tray and bake at 200 degrees C for 35-40 mts. You need to turn the potato fingers once during the baking process. OR you can deep fry the potato fingers to a golden brown shade. If deep frying add a tbsp of cornflour instead of oil to the potatoes and then deep fry. Remove onto absorbent paper and keep aside. 2 Heat a heavy bottomed vessel, add oil, add the crushed garlic and saute on high flame for few secs. Add the red chilli paste, tomato sauce and vinegar and combine. Add the baked potatoes and toss for a mt on medium-high flame. Add the honey and toss the contents till well combined. Turn off heat. Adjust salt if required. 3 Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and garnish with spring onion greens or coriander leaves and combine. Serve warm as a starter/appetizer. Serves 4

You will need:

4 Large Potatoes (Maris Pipers are best) – peeled and cut chips

For the Coating: ½ tbsp olive oil 1 tsp red chilli powder 2 tsps tomato sauce 2 crushed garlic cloves Salt

For the Sauce: ½ tbsp olive oil 2 crushed garlic 1 tsp red chilli sauce 2 tsps vinegar 1 tbsp tomato sauce 1 ½ tbsp Boyne Valley Honey 1 tbsp toasted Sesame Seeds

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.

Grease a baking pan with a non-stick oil spray.

In a bowl combine potato chips, oil, red chilli powder, tomato sauce, crushed garlic and salt and mix well, making sure the potato chips are well coated.

Place potato chips on a greased baking tray and bake for 35-40 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.

Turn once.

Heat a heavy bottomed pan, add oil and crushed garlic and sauté on a high flame for a couple of seconds.

Add the red chilli paste, tomato sauce and vinegar and combine.

Add the baked potatoes and toss for a minute on a medium to high flame.

Add the Honey and toss the contents till well combined.

Turn off heat.

Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and Serve.

Very flavorful and looks appealing in the serving plate.

Ingredients :

Potato ~ 4 Onion ~ 2, cut into cube Capsicum ~ 2, cut into cube Garlic ~ 2cloves, crunched Ginger-garlic paste ~ 2 tbsp Red chilli powder ~ 1 tsp Soya sauce ~ 2 tbsp Tomato sauce ~ 2 tbsp Chilli sauce ~ 1 tbsp Honey ~ 11/2 tsp Corn flour - 4 tbsp Salt to taste Oil ~ 3 tbsp Toasted sesame seeds ~ 2 tbsp

Method :

Boiled the potato, peel the skin and cut into cubed.

Make a paste with corn flour, ginger-garlic paste, red chilli powder, salt. Coat the potato with corn flour paste and shallow fry till it turns golden brown.

Take a pan and heat 2tbsp of oil and add onions, garlic and capsicum, saute for 5 mins in slow flame. Add to this soya sauce, tomato sauce, chilli sauce, salt, mix well.

Now add half cup of water, boil for 5 mins. Make a corn flour paste in a separate bowl and add to the above mixture.

Add the shallow fried potatoes and Cook for a couple of minutes until the potatoes are coated with the sauce. Add the honey and toss the contents till well. Turn off heat.

Garnish with toasted sesame seeds. (If you have regular sesame seeds, just dry roast them on low heat).
