Monitoring Traffic #84

@alandgri Do we have tools in place to track hits on the production sites?

We need to get feedback on traction before we start really working to promote this to customers. This is very important.

We don't have tools, but we do have the raw data. At this point, volume is probably low enough that it doesn't really take a lot of analysis to poke through. I will take a peek at what's there.

I have installed and configured awstats. It now runs daily on the log files, every evening at 10:00 PM our time.

Now statistics can be found for each of the web sites except dev: [https://mmuat.metricsystem.tech/stats/awstats.mmuat.xml] (https://mmuat.metricsystem.tech/stats/awstats.mmuat.xml) https://stl.movementmatch.org/stats/awstats.mmstl.xml https://az.movementmatch.org/stats/awstats.mmaz.xml

These paths are password protected. To add your name to the password file, generate a password file using the htpasswd command on the host, and then append that file to the /usr/share/httpd/html/.htaccess file.

Dev can be added to the process as well, but it will require a couple more steps because of the way the folder is automatically populated.

As the statistics are built over time, I may want to change how they are generated, but this is a start.

Thank you Alan! I do not think we want stats on dev, so done.

I am sure I will have fun trying to gain access. ... after 40 years I still do not like fussing with computers.

I still have not accessed these stats but I am sure to want to soon. I am closing for now.

Separate private stats from public stats
