Hello Mike, I really appreciate your thoughtful requests. It is only through the re-review process that we can keep the DO as up to date and accurate as possible. I think it is important to reassess, in an ongoing basis.
--> looking these over, and researching them: -- two distinct diseases
Hepatocellular carcinoma -- the most common type of liver cancer -- as a carcinoma -- it arises from the epithelial sells of the lining of the liver
whereas adenocarcinoma, arrives from glandular structures in epithelial tissue
--> we have classified hepatic adenocarcinoma as a cell type cancer:
Hepatoid adenocarcinoma - we added this to the DO from NCI was proposed in 1996, for a special type of primary gastric carcinoma characterized by histological resemblance to hepatocellular carcinoma and excessive production of α-fetoprotein (AFP). For comparison, note the existence of "hepatoid adenocarcinoma" (DOID_0060534), "An adenocarcinoma with morphologic characteristics similar to hepatocellular carcinoma, arising from an anatomic site other than the liver.
In other words, I can't tell if hepatocellular _adeno_carcinoma is a synonym for or subtype of hepatocellular carcinoma (or if it is even a real disease).
Sorry for the nebulous request.

OK, thanks. I thought they were distinct, but I wasn't sure.
So, I guess we need a new term for hepatocellular adenocarcinoma.
Glad I'm not annoying you. :-)
Happy to help out. You are definitely not annoying me. Discussion of the terms, their meaning and association is GREAT !!
Cheers, Lynn

-- to do: add new disease term
Hello Mike, working back through tickets. Looking for instances of hepatocellular adenocarcinoma, I am not finding it used anywhere.
And based on the definition of adenocarcinoma: It is defined as neoplasia of epithelial tissue that has glandular origin, glandular characteristics, or both
I am going to close this ticket.
Cheers, Lynn
