It sounds like Wine doesn't contain all the components needed for the Microsoft database engine that we're using (Microsoft Jet 3.5 - as used by Access 97 - packaged within DAO 3.51) to function correctly. You could try installing Microsoft's Data Access Objects redistributable - there's a copy on the Distance Support page, under Distance 3.5 -- here's a direct link

That's a bit out of date, so if that doesn't work with the latest Distance, then try updating it with the Microsoft DAO 3.51 service pack 3, available from

Meantime I've marked it as Resolved, Wont fix as we don't fully support running Distance on a Mac!
