There are some topics that are "out of scope" for this course, I think they are:

• survey design
• points/cue counting etc?
• stratification
• MRDS?

folks can get more details about distance sampling variants elsewhere. We want folks here to come away with understand how to adjust for imperfect detectability within segments by fitting detection functions (don't really need to obsess about mixture models vs. Hermite polynomials...)

Then get them to understand response and predictor variables, and the need to derive predictors often (almost exclusively) from remote sensing.

Do prediction, deal with variance issues.
