This may exclude some people but it will make our lives easier. The topics I can see being useful are:

GIS
distance sampling
GAMs/spatial modelling
survey design/field procedure

I agree we should assume something. However, just by saying "we assume you know x" folks won't necessarily be put off. Folks have come to the advanced distance workshop in the past without attending the intro, thinking they could 'pick it up along the way.'

Need to be careful about mixing GAMs with spatial models. Somebody might know a lot about spatial models and not know how to spell GAM (geospatial folks).
