Improve handling of image viewer location for Mac users #1288

The current requirement for the tools to be executables doesn't work well for Mac users setting up their image viewer. If possible a good default might be: open -g -a Preview whereas /System/Applications/Preview/<insert rest of path here> doesn't work.

I think you've got the immediate issue fixed -- which was to get XnViewMP out as a default image viewer (and my apologies for recommending it in the first place -- it has definite uses, but I couldn't get it to work as an image viewer.

There are still some oddities that I'm happy to document, but I'm not sure where the best place is to document them.

Is this wiki page a suitable place to add notes? It is parallel with this one and the parent of both is linked to from INSTALL.md in the GG release.
