Bugfix #153

Cleans up a couple bugs from a test run of 2.1.0 Want to run it one more time and will then merge (post-review) and make 2.1.1.

@bethac07 would you give this a look over before I merge it in? I'll give it another test run before tagging 2.1.1, but I think it'd be good to get these into the repo sooner rather than later.
