AVIF not working on AOSP 12 based build for fajita #85

AVIF images are not shown in the preinstalled Gallery app and in the Matrix client Element using AOSP 12 based DivestOS on fajita. However, I thought AOSP 12 was supposed to support AVIF.

But what about the preinstalled Gallery app? It does not work there as well.

Okay, Simple Gallery does not display AVIF files. I have found no app that does. There are no thumbnails for AVIF files in the Files app and in any other files app from F-Droid I tried.

In the issue you linked someone said AVIF thumbnails would show up in Simple Files on Android 12 so I installed it from F-Droid to check, but they do not show up in Simple Files as well. I conclude AVIF support is broken in this build. Especially as the AOSP Files app shows no thumbnails for AVIF images as well.

The stock files app may simply never have received AVIF support. Most of the AOSP apps haven't been touched in years.
