Open Turbolqk opened 1 year ago
there were actually already some alternatives here: https://gitlab.com/divested-mobile/mull-fenix/-/issues/53
but I think yours is more fitting :)
Glad you like it, here is another mock up.
I think a mixture of both will be the best.
Like this:
Old Mull On Top,
Should i delete this above 3 logo ? Because we may have feelings like using Mozilla's Firefox Geometric Plots or canvas !
If any one wants to vote by thumbs up or down, feel free.
Ultimate, @SkewedZeppelin choice and will.
Yeha a new logo would be nice the currenr one creeps me out sometimes...
Tried to make one using stable diffusion, here's the best I could do:
I think the current icon is not only good, but is the best!
Please, Don't modify it. Don't make it complex. Keep it simple as it is now.
Animal, Ball, Lock - or Animal inside Animal - and the Sense of Movement is TOO MUCH of a decoration.
An animal face/head is enough. Just let me open the app and use it.

Current icon is sooo ugly It needs to be changed. I don't want it simple, i want it looking good.
I think the current is fine. It's just need a Material You version.
Any change should keep a very flat design, because that's the best option for small screens. Using a version of Firefox logo isn't bad but it should be based on the firefox current logo and keep it simple and skip the padlock. Having it based on firefoxlogo is nice because it sort of makes it visualy clear that it's a fork of firefox.

Good idea
+1 for the logo in the OP
First thing I noticed when using Mull was the sort of meh logo. Not bad, not good; does the job, but could use some more thought.
Again, love the first suggested logo sketch. Good proportions, great attitude, nice reference. Maybe not the lock.
My proposal, based on a Racoon too, with themes of space/sky in the color palette The descriptor "Browser" is added, which will definetely help for web searches and SEO.
Logo comparison For continuity's sake, the icon is just a simple head.
Icon Options Aside from those, the head symbol of the full logo can also work as an app icon.
Icon comparison
Colors As the symbol is made from just one color in two different opacities (100% and 25%), it can be represented in any color that is desired. There's also a monochrome version.

Awesome work mate, as a little feedback, I would like to maintain the current palette, but that aside, is a great proposal.

Thanks! Will try, but it is a very tricky palette (green and red clash a lot, specially those two). May try an option in red and another in green.
Started with green at first, but was tempted to get a brighter and bluer color which i think fits for a browser.
I really like the last logo!
Just my 2 cents - the original color palette is bad, makes your eyes bleed.
Nice work. Just a suggestion for the last logo suggestion from personal preference—take it or leave it—I really liked the "attitude" of the logo in the OP. Not only is the raccoon's head slightly tilted, and its grip possessive and/or protective, but its eyes have a very faint squint. I love that. It meshes so well with the hardened privacy theme. You know what I mean? I can see that the circularity of the eyes harmonizes very well with the shapes of the head and features, but it's bland. Any way to get a version with some snazz, pizazz, a little sizzle? 😂
I like the face-only (head-only) logo.
I think not including a ball in the logo is much better and sophisticated.

Thanks for the feedback, its a good observation. I tried several options. The one I chose (1) is neutral, which for a browser app I think is what works best. But here are other versions. Of those I prefer the second one (2), which I think looks friendlier without going too overboard or cartoonish.
Make him angry! 😂 Or, not joking this time, more like slightly suspicious is what I'm looking for.
Flip the eyes of the second one upside down.
I played a bit with your logo @jaimtres, hope you don't mind.

cool! maybe thats a little too much but that kinda shape is more similar to a real racoon might give it a try too

Change the eyes to something more neutral, and then I think it's fine.
Tweak, with space themed branding that I think fits
This definetly looks better. Imo only one thing I dislike, the "3" shape of the mouth makes it look more like a bear, raccoons have a pointier face. Thats my opinion, otherwise really nice!
It sort of resembles the red panda, the origin for the Firefox logo, that to my understanding was lost intranslation so it then became a fox rather then the panda.

Best one so far in my personal opinion, but with the eyes adjusted/toned down.

My opinion is to keep the eyes completely and 360° degrees white. Perhaps the adjusted/toned down eyes version is good for a Private Mode.
It is possible to add a couple of icons for a single program?
A question a logo and the name should be copyrighted and trademarked? Or then anyone could use Mull and Logo for malicious purposes.
I think observing copyright for the Mull logo should suffice

No. 11 👏 Gives me felling of command, smartness and secrecy.
Good one, retaining present animal style. Easier to identify, for present users, reviewers.
Actually, the animal design is not bad one, only dark green background makes it unimpressive.
Just changing that to a lighter and brighter color like Yellow, Sky blue, White or no background color will be enough to make the logo eye-catching bright.
Thanks
I also think Mull deserves an icon refresh and would like to throw my hat into the ring. I initially went for the first suggestion (firefox style logo with raccoon instead of fox), but I scrapped it because the side view makes it hard recognize that it's supposed to be a raccoon and mainly because I think it's not a good fit for a mobile application. Most other suggestions here are a front view of the face (also the current one and the Fennec F-Droid logo, which is a great icon imo) and I agree that this is the best approach. Because of the smaller screen sizes and touch targets the trend in mobile app icon design is simplified, flat shapes and two layers. To prevent the icon from ending up to boring or generic you can use more complex curves, disconnected shapes and gradient colors. The Brave icon is a good example for that, it uses all of the above to stay minimal while also being unique (It's still kinda ugly though).
A two layer approach also works great if you want to support themed icons. So keeping all this in mind I created another icon. I'm also open for suggestions, especially for the colors since I didn't pick yet. Here it is:
Nice work.
I still think, personally, that the face should have a sharp attitude, almost suspicious / angry / pissed, but not over the top.
Another suggestion for your icon, is to make the face more angular. The prior suggestions have very raccoon-y faces, because the cheeks are angular and not rounded. Maybe give it a try?
I'm happy to spend more time on this. I'd like to get some input from one of the maintainers though. There've been quite a few concepts so far and it would be good to know which one is favored the most, so new proposals can move in that direction.
@M00NJ
I like how @Turbolqk's is distinctly a raccoon, but might have too much going on to fit as an icon. @jaimtres's is more like a red panda. @StigtriX's is a nice but seems wide (?) and the gradient reduces its pop. @Universalizer's is interesting twist, but the detached arms feel uncanny.
The eyes rolled back expression in this one also feels angry or like asleep.
The sunglasses one in this one is seemingly appropriate, but it makes it look more like a doge than a raccoon.
And yes I agree the current icon has awful colors and looks more like a badger than a racoon

Thanks for the quick response. Do you also have a comment for the one I proposed? Or in general the two layer approach? I value an honest opinion so if you think it's bad don't hesitate to let me know :)
What I took away from your comments is the main priority is that it's to be easily identifiable as a raccoon.
@M00NJ your proposal looks good: clean and simple

I'm happy to hear that :) If you decide to go with it feel free to hit me up and request changes or pick a color.
I like the racoon ones, but why replace the badger? I like the new aesthetic but the badger is different and it is far more unique than racoons. Plus the Honey Badger which the old icon looks like is more fitting.
@daffydock The current one is a racoon, it was never a badger.
Mr. Dev, I really love your project, but this logo is trash, sorry. But I don't want to be a hater, so I made a quick sketch (mock up) of a logo idea (with a pen). So you say you like how for firefox there is the theme of the fox, so for Mull you'd want a similar theme, only with a racoon instead. This "idea" is in the style of Firefox's logo. What do you think, trash or not? Id love if someone develops this into a proper logo.
