Climate Risk Modelling, Data Scientist (MSCI)

Your team responsibilities

We are building cutting-edge software to identify and analyze how companies align to a low-carbon future. Our Implied Temperature Rise model provides investors with a meaningful forward-looking metric to measure the alignment of investments with the goals of the Paris agreement. It does so by building on another model, the Target Scorecard, which summarizes the wide range of a company’s decarbonization targets into a single projected emissions trajectory. Through these fintech tools, we help financial institutions set and meet climate targets.

As the Implied Temperature Rise research team expands, we are looking for a sharp and organized senior data scientists who thrives in a fast-paced, fun and challenging environment.

Your key responsibilities

Develop Implied Temperature Rise and Target Scorecard methodologies / models. (See a high-level description of the tool here: Implied Temperature Rise - MSCI).
Implement, test and document of models.
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to explain the models in clear and accessible terms.
Employ agile development and rapid prototyping techniques.
Promote best engineering practices to ensure quality assurance.
Anticipate problems/opportunities and adapt to new challenges.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

At least five years of proven experience in Python-based data science is a must.
Proven experience in software engineering is a strong plus, as well as significant experience in climate transition risk modelling.
Experience with Paris aligned and low carbon portfolio alignment methodologies, familiarity with climate finance standards (e.g. SBTi) are both advantages to fill the position.
Familiarity with general concepts of carbon accounting methodologies (Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials) is desirable.
Fast learner and strong logical thinker.
Strong organization skills, combined with an ability to adapt and reprioritize in a fast-evolving environment.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a multi-cultural and geographically distributed team.
Self-motivated, pro-active and demonstrating an exceptional drive towards delivery.
