Can't access Hard Drives other than C #153

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. File browser starts at My Documents.
2. Go to top level.
3. Stops at C:/ and can't go higher to select other drives.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected to go to a "Computers" list, with all my local hard drives listed. My
video files are not stored on my C drive.

What version of VLC Remote are you using?
0.5.5

What version of VLC are you using?
2.0.1

What version of Android are you using?
2.3.4

Which Android device are you using?
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

Please provide any additional information below.
This feature (ability to select all local hard drives) is available in the
similar "VLC Super Duper Remote Android" app by Banamalon, but I prefer your UI.

Menu -> Parent when at the top level of your C: drive will take you up to a
drive listing (although it takes a few seconds to load on my machine). Once
you've navigated to your appropriate drive, I recommend selecting Menu -> Set
As Home so you don't have to jump all the way back up next time.

I don't have a 'menu' button per say. I have a parent folder button which lets
me traverse up the directory structure, but when I hit the parent folder button
it just says
"It's empty here!
>connection might have lost or VLC is not available.

Ensure that VLC is running, then tap refresh."

It won't load now matter how much I refresh. If click the home button, it loads
just my docs just fine again.

I used to have this problem. Here's what I do to access other drives on the pc.

1.Run VLC Setup. This will start VLC Media Player on the PC.
2.Cancel VLC Media Player!
3.Open Windows Explorer and double-click on the file you want to view.
VLC Media Player will start playing the file.
4.Now open VLC Remote. It should detect the file being played by VLC Media
Player and allow you to control it. If it doesn't then add the computer to VLC
Remote on the "Computers" screen. Do not run VLC Setup again. Instead manually
add the computer by specifying its IP Address.
5. VLC Remote should now find the computer hosting VLC Media Player and ALL its
drives.

Works for me.

I'm using Windows 8.1, VLC 2.1.5 Rincewind, VLC Setup 5.48 and VLC Mobile
4.08(001).

Thanks for the response. I'm afraid it doesn't work for me. After running the
installer, when I launch a files from a secondary drive (g:) it starts playing.
VLC remote recognizes the current playing file and I'm able to control it, but
if I go to open another file from the remote, it still doesn't allow me to
navigate to the g: drive. Only the c: drive is available and I get the same
result as before if I navigate up to the 'my computer' list of drives level, it
disconnects.

A very unconvenient workaround is to edit the application configuration file
(you will need to be root to do so).
The file to edit is:
/data/data/org.peterbaldwin.client.android.vlcremote/shared_prefs/preferences.xm
l

Just replace the path in the "browse_directory" key with any local path on your
computer.
