Setup a maintenance schedule for CNC Router #1265

Open mdunschen opened 5 years ago

mdunschen commented 5 years ago

The CNC router needs regular maintenance; apart from cleaning this is mainly lubrication.

A step-by-step guide (in English) to lubricating the machine can be found in the ring binder "CNC Step", kept in the cupboard next to the machine, from page 64 of "Operating Instructions High-Z T-Series" - these include some dismantling of covers and the use of the supplied grease gun. (Where is the grease gun?)

mdunschen commented 5 years ago

Grease gun has been located in the same cupboard as above, in cardboard box saying "Wuerth" on the outside.

Given that I'm pretty clueless about this kind of thing, what sort of thing do you mean by low friction grease? A quick search returned a few different things, including bike lubricant, so I'm not sure what I'd be looking to get.

Speaking to @mdunschen, he's happy that the amount of lubricant that came in the grease gun will be enough to keep us going for a couple of years, so there's no need to buy more just yet.

I've ordered the cloths linked above - they're currently out of stock, but will be back in shortly, so I'll update the issue when they arrive.

WRT a schedule, it has been suggested that we make this yearly, and about this time of year is as good as any other. Martin has suggested rewriting the pages in the manual to make them easier to follow by laymen, and adding them to the Wiki, and has said that he'll be happy to do that.
