Also, i did wonder if the casing where the beam is emitted and the light tracker is mounted on seemed quite loose. Im not 100% what its usually like though
It's Sheila, not Sophia ( who is in bits under a desk...) Perhaps an admin can correct this for future reference?
Mike and I had a look and reproduced the symptoms, eventually narrowing it down to the HV PSU, which is a MYJG60W.
It's available from Amazon here:
Shopping tag added.
The internals of the machine were also really full of brown soot, which has been cleaned up and the mirrors cleaned too. A bit of a general service might be needed once the PSU is installed.

A photo of the laser tube when we first opened up Sheila. Ever so slightly dirty.
This has been thoroughly cleaned now.
We also found that the HT connection to the tube was loose. This has been re-fitted and tightened now.
Ordered power supply from Amazon for delivery on Monday
The power supply has arrived. It's currently on Seán's desk.
Power Supply now fitted and working.
This new supply has an external current meter, I haven’t fitted this at this time, as I expect this will need a little metalwork to fit it. So I will leave this issue open till this has been fitted.
@magman2112 can this be closed?
Half-way through cutting a design , the laser beam stopped working and started making a fizzing sound when in use. I'd only been using the machine for around 10mins prior to the issue - all the same setting as i usually use.
The casing of the laser still moves around the mat as per the design but no beam is being emitted and its making an unusual fizzing/buzzing sound when in use. I tried turning off/on twice but the problem persists. The temp was at 16 so i dont think it overheated and the filters were all on and working fine.
