I like it. If you can create a laser cut one, we could Tweet it out asap, and have it included in the weeknotes so that people will see it early enough to think about buying.
As a future thing, is it possible to preload an RFID tag with a certain amount of credit? Might be a good idea to offer that to workshop users who don't have a membership so they can pay in advance the way that Main Room hotdeskers can.

I think probably in two forms - one a nice email version; and one a laser-cut(?) one on thin card.

Hm.. I quite like the idea of pre-loaded RFID, this would be fairly easy as we'd just assign the days to "PRELOAD1", "PRELOAD2", .. "PRELOADN" and then set the name for that RFID ID in doorbot to "PRELOAD1" etc.
I don't quite understand the second part of your suggestion though, workshop people can pay in advance the same way that main room people do, but I see that this might be easier for some people to deal with as they can just pay money and get a card/fob without having to be invoiced. In fact this might make charging easier for people who are less au fait with FreeAgent, they can know there's a box of fobs for 2 days, 4 days, etc. that they can simply sell.
We do need to remember to always induct people so that we know they're aware of the safety precautions! Perhaps the fob comes in an envelope with a link on saying "You must fill in this form before using this fob".
One issue with this though is that when the person goes into negative numbers there's no actual warning and unless they do induct (and we add a field for "your fob's ID") we won't actually know who to chase.

Although workshop users can pay in advance, I don't know of any (bar members) that actually do. Also, as the workshop doorbot doesn't synch with the spreadsheet, it relies on us to keep an eye on who is in and out of the workshop and ensure that they are logged manually, which would discourage workshop users further from giving us a heads up that they need to be marked down as present - not out of any malice, but because that's just the way prepaying works. Just look at how many of our regular hotdeskers have no idea how many days they have left from their block buying - they just tap in and expect that everything is taken care of. Workshop users would surely do the same.
Most of our regular workshop users have their own fob anyway, so it might just be a case of advertising that they can buy blocks of time in advance, but it was the disconnect between the workshop doorbot and the spreadsheet that I thought might be work round-able with prepay fobs.

Right, yeah I did wonder that but forgot to mention it. Would certainly be an idea to tweak things so that some users get logged on the workshop door only. Or we should "just" get the centralised system finished so that all the doors can do it!

Interesting idea - the preloaded fob stuff - but off-topic, so I've spun it out as a new issue #71 :-)
@johnmckerrell Does the moving logcards to the kitchen doorbot mean that the second part of the tangent has been dealt with? Or is it still a potential requirement for the centralised system?
Not sure what you mean exactly but yes the workshop door is now logging so the main change is to make sure workshop users that hot desk have fobs (which I didn't think many of them did) and that they're set up as hot deskers.

Cool. Was just working out if we should connect this issue to the "centralised system" issue so that the new requirement wasn't lost, but it sounds like we don't need that.
@djyldyz offered to donate a laser-cut bauble design, which we can then pair with a printed-on-nice paper/card label containing details of the gift. I'm thinking we'd have this sort of list of gifts:
More suggestions welcome. @djyldyz suggested maybe people get a free day included, so you'd get a minimum of two days for anything (or maybe for the laser induction, a day included). This seems like a reasonable idea.
I'll look for some nice paper/card today. Then we need a nice photo of one or two, and a blog post about it to launch it.
I've drafted a test voucher card and it printed okay on the thin card I had in stock. That was blue though, so I bought a couple of sheets of cream (A2 coloured card, 75p/sheet from the ground floor).
@jdcormack is tidying up the design. @djyldyz are you in this week? Can you cut a couple of snowflakes, or send us the design if you're not? I've kicked off a print of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:193899 to see if that works as an accompaniment to a 3D printing voucher too.
I'm in tomorrow and will cut the snowflakes. What material should we use? wood?
I'm thinking wood will give the best result with the minimum of post-processing, but I guess whoever is prepping them can make a choice on the amount of work they want to do :-)
The 3D printed bauble came out really nicely, scaled to 0.8 and printed on the UP at 1.5mm layer height. We should be able to do them two at a time once we've got some more filament for the UPs...
Ok, here are some samples (~diameter 9cm):
Acrylic was the most straightforward, but it looks best in frosted finish. Solid ones are a bit boring.
Also, today the small laser cutter was not cutting fully through. I cut the outer layer twice, which is why the wood looks burned. What's the best way to avoid this?
And another question, how many do we need and by when?
I left 18 snowflakes ready to be attached to vouchers on Sean's desk yesterday. The flash drive with the design is enclosed: you can make more of these if you need.
There's been no direct activity on this issue for over 2 years - I've labelled it as "stale?" and will close it in a month if no further updates.
Tip: You can remove "stale?" label to prevent this ticket being closed.
Organisers' meeting notes: Might be worth revisiting given current marketing drive. And this comment will remind people about it. If there's no activity by next organisers meeting we'll close it.
Hmm, there was no further activity, but I'm inclined to leave this issue open anyway as it is still a good idea, and may well be even more relevant given that we're soon to be launching a 'recruitment drive' when we move.
Another 18 months with no real activity, so this time I'm closing it.
We do have Gift Vouchers available and advertised on the website, but I think I'm right in saying we've sold a grand total of zero, so maybe, for the time being at least, it's not going to be as popular as we'd hoped. The fact that it's out there online should stop us forgetting, so there's no real need for this to stay open.
We've just sold a gift voucher :tada: We should design one to send them to print out, and put it somewhere-safe
for next time we sell one.
With Christmas coming up, it might be good to sell gift vouchers for 1/2/3/5/10 days of hot-desking or workshop access. The "perfect gift for the freelancer in your life"...
