DockStation / dockstation

DockStation is developer-centric application to managing projects based on Docker. Instead of lots of CLI commands you can monitor, configure, and manage services and containers using just a GUI.

I don't know, maybe it's some good news, but I finished my second project, which I had to develop parallel. It means that I can spend more time on DockStation than before.

first thing, please excuse me, dark mode, and some bigger font. unreadable using non-retina. if there would be sourcecode, we could fork and PR that for you.

great tool mate!

docertabum commented 3 years ago

also searching through-out the logs could be a bit better :) plus possibility to clear log window before you mess with the application again. Thanks :)

@zocker-160 Everything that isn't related to the issue will be deleted.

zocker-160 commented 2 years ago

how is it not related to this issue?

zyphlar commented 2 years ago

The project appears no longer active and I needed something that worked on an older raspberry pi so I used an open source alternative

malko commented 2 years ago

@igor-lemon We are now in april 2022, still no new release, it is understandable projects take time. Isn't it time for the project to go opensource instead or letting it dying like this. This is a useful tool it's really sad to see it dying like that. @zyphlar which open source alternative did you choose ?

sascha1337 commented 2 years ago

Fork it

Fork it

not sure how forking is going to work out on a closed source project :smile:

zocker-160 commented 2 years ago

which open source alternative did you choose ?

@malko he won't be allowed to tell you because otherwise the comment will be deleted, just like mine was (where I was listing a few very good open source alternatives)

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

@malko I'll release at least 1 feature release, maybe 2, not more. Unfortunately, the app wasn't released for a variety of reasons that hit me and my productivity (if you are interested, just google what is happening in Belarus from 2020 to today + I worked on another project which was released a few months ago). The source code will not be published for many reasons, if it's important for you I would use some other solution.

At the moment, the application needs to be completely reworked, because many concepts are inconvenient for devs and QAs to work with. The app is not fast as I want, and has not perfect architecture and approaches inside. I'll definitely remake the application for my needs like it was when my friend and I made the DockStation. But I don't know how it will be released yet. It can be a free and open-source app if some companies will support me. If not it will be a commercial application because I have no desire to spend my time and own money in order to receive only reproaches and hate in return. I think that I will make a post about it later. I hope this year will be productive.

About alternatives, the post is old but some projects are actual https://medium.com/@dockstation/a-brief-comparison-of-gui-docker-tools-46bd6a24ae31 Also, you can use the official Docker Dashboard app.

@zocker-160 OMG, I just asked you don't spam in this issue.

@malko portainer

malko commented 2 years ago

@igor-lemon Wasn't my intention to blame you in any way, and I totally understand your point. Just hoping that opensourcing the project will free you from maintaining it, and let other folks to take over and maintain it. My company is too small to support you but I really hope you find a sponsor if this is what you want. Any way thanks for your quick reply and your clear statement on the project status.

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

@malko Well, here, apparently, the case when writing something similar from 0 will be faster than refactor it, just trust me. :D

Guys, who want the new version faster, just write me, the app is ready, just need to test on different platforms (mac based on M1/x86 processors, Windows, Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, Suse, RedHat))

docertabum commented 2 years ago

Hi @igor-lemon DockStation was my favourite tool when I was on Windows back then. I am now on Mac/Intel so if you want I can test it. Thanks!

malko commented 2 years ago

@igor-lemon no need to get it faster but if you need test under Ubuntu i can help.

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

Awesome! Ok, I'll try to build and publish an RC version today.

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

Hi @malko @docertabum, a bit delayed because I spent a lot of time with macOS app sign + notarization

So, you can get RC version here. https://github.com/igor-lemon/pre-releases/releases/tag/v1.6.0-rc.0

The milestone https://github.com/DockStation/dockstation/milestone/5

But some issues I skipped, a changelog I'll publish a bit later.

Let's chat about bugs here: https://github.com/DockStation/dockstation/discussions/310

Hi @malko, @docertabum, do you have any news?

0xdeada55 commented 2 years ago

Not to hate or anything, but remember this project is as closed source as can be and the author is from Belarus. A country of which politicians suck Putin's dick.

Maybe it's not a good idea to run this stuff, considering the current situation in Ukraine. Also, how convenient, there hasn't been an update for 3 years until now.

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

@0xdeada55 OMG, facepalm If you want to discuss about it I'm ready to do it, but not here. I ask you don't spam.

0xdeada55 commented 2 years ago

My message wasn't spam, in fact, it's my first message under DockStation.

It is a genuine concern, I'm not saying your software is bad or has malware, I'm just saying that it's not a good idea to run it considering it's closed source and the current situation.

The fact that you were so quick to respond like this makes me worry even more...

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

The last warning, don't spam! If you want to discuss about political situation or something else I'm ready, but not here, because here I want to discuss just DockStation, nothing else. Thanks.

0xdeada55 commented 2 years ago

Ok.

Has your stance on the project's open source status changed? Will you open source it? Is there still a reason for not open sourcing it?

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

@0xdeada55 https://github.com/DockStation/dockstation/discussions/311

If you have some questions, which are not related to the issue, ask in the discussion not here.

malko commented 2 years ago

@igor-lemon when launching the v1.6.0-rc.2 appImage, it says my "Doker compose file invalid. .FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory './docker-compose.yml'" for each already defined projects. Launching old 1.5.1 version work ok.

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

-

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

@malko

No such file or directory './docker-compose.yml'"

Got it, I'll re-check it. I slightly changed the approach to compose files path there, apparently I lost backward compatibility.

Thanks!

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

RC.3 is ready https://github.com/igor-lemon/pre-releases/releases/tag/v1.6.0-rc.3

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

Hi guys! Have you caught any bugs yet?

D3XX3R commented 2 years ago

So far it looks good. As soon as I find any bugs I will report it here.

igor-lemon commented 2 years ago

@D3XX3R ok, thanks.

So, on macOS looks like works ok.
