Wall Thickness Setting.. does it even work? #259

I've been grappling with this issue for a while and only now i've want to post this issue. Using Doodle3D with ultimaker Originals and Ultimaker 2. No matter how much I play with the wall thickness in setting.. changing from .8 to 1.2 to 2.4 to even 5... makes no difference.. it still prints with the minimum wall thickness.

Would like to make kids doodles more durable and not break so easily.. I think i might resort to drilling bigger holes into my nozzle to do this now.

FYI ... my doodle3d is already upgraded to the latest firmware

I use that setting i think for the doodle3d-live-printing-with-chocolate-on-cookies-occasions Or maybe i change the wall thickness by changing the filament thickness... not sure anymore Keep in mind the maximum extruder capacity for the machine

So basically are you telling me that if I set the wall thickness it doesn't tell doodle3d to build up the wall thickness by adding more 0.4 walls on a stroke?

If I set to 0.8 it does make 2 stokes of 0.4 walls?

I have to physically change my nozzle and match the settings with my machine?

yes!

no... : )

The nozzle size has nothing to do with the wall thickness. The nozzle 'shoulder' [the flat part] is more important. That defines the maximum line thickness. A smaller nozzle causes more pressure though, so it is possible that you have to print slower to prevent skipping. If you want to widen the shoulder, place some fine sandpaper on the bed and wipe gently the head 3-4 times. [theoretically you will very thin hairs of pla if you print smaller walls than the shoulder, this is visible on the kamermaker of the 3Dprintcanalhouse http://www.3Dprintcanalhouse.com, but haven't really seen it on UM...]

I think Joris has explained the idea of wall-thickness in Doodle3D correctly. It is just a scaler for the amount of extrusion. It won't create extra lines it just extrudes more.
