They each killed his enemy

A note should specify "enemy":

Each one killed his man

The Heb verb is plural, but I take that as an idiom. Thus while

They each killed his man

accurately reflects the Hebrew, it grates on my ears. There's a lot of discussion of "each" as subject and singular versus plural predication at https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/12387/each-with-plural-or-singular-verb, and they never quite hit the bull's eye, they seem to come out on the same side as I.

The ULB of 1KI 20:20 now reads: \v 20 Each man killed his opponent. The Arameans fled and Israel pursued them. Ben Hadad the king of Aram escaped on a horse along with some horsemen.

The word for word Heb: "Each man killed his man" for English is repetitive. The GNT has "and each of killed the man he fought" adding the last verb. This seems to cover the ground. There was another correction to the phrasing that was corrected.
