Moving towards a better UI will make the experience better for users (and developers).
This is a simple mock up of where I would like the UI to end up. The upper left is a drawer menu which will come in from the left displaying the buttons from the current UI. The majority of the UI will be the map of the current location eventually having different visualization modes to enable for mobility traces and other location information related to the user's session.
