Removing the Leaderboard #108

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. I would like to see no Leaderboard, because it can create a false environment that it is a race to gain the most xp per month, when it isn't so. It also can create tensions and problems between other users. Describe the solution you'd like I would like to see no leaderboard. It is not useful, or helpful in any way like the denied dupes channel or the helpful resources. The leaderboard creates activity yes, but the wrong kind of activity in my opinion. Why it is such a bad idea, because right away, someone is saying I need 5 xp to pass you. That is so dumb. It just used the wrong kind of activity right away. (I took off the others people name to not point fingers, and to only show my point of why leaderboard is a bad idea)

@jedi3r4 I haven't seen any issues pertaining to the leaderboard between Custodians. I've also not seen anybody be upset over the leaderboard. Also are there any other examples? The one you linked I don't see as toxic or contentious, it just looks like people are having fun with the leaderboard.

So purposely saying "All I have to do is get 5 xp to get that spot" is not being mean or actually not putting the person down, who said it was his first time and last time on the leaderboard? The person who said the 5 xp part literally said that right after rashuan said that. The whole sentence and history between these people, not naming names like usual, leads me to believe that it was a toxic comment, and only for the leaderboard itself. To be the top, putting it unneeded and unwanted kind of activity. Just by itself, with no other context, seems harmless, but it isn't in this context in that sentence.

I'll find more examples soon.

so if that's the case, and I did not read it that way probably because you blurred out the names so I don't really have the context of knowing who said it, then it still feels like such an anomaly outside of the general attitude about the leaderboard, I don't feel like one person, or one small group of individuals, really matters. And maybe my view on this is a little skewed because I am of the belief that being on the leaderboard doesn't really matter.

I purposely blurred out the names to not point fingers, but you can still easily find out who said what by searching. To me it is not an anomaly, it happens in a lot of servers, and I have no doubt that it will happen more in Discord Feedback. Plus if being on the leaderboard does not matter, why should there be a leaderboard? If it is not important or does not matter, there should be no leaderboard, as it is just wasting, as far as I understand, space in the feedback server, and wasting the bots resources.

The point (at least as far as I can tell) is just for fun. There's no benefit to being number 1 on the leaderboard vs not on the leaderboard at all. I've been every number on it several months in a row and I've also had times when I've not been on it and theres no difference in my server benefits (which is just an orange name currently) so PERSONALLY I see no benefit other than a fun tally of who's contributing more this month.

That is just you though. I see it as something that stands against Discord Feedback as I never once had a good experience with leaderboards of any kind in any discord server. I know I am not the only one that feels this way though 🤷‍♂️ Even if its for fun, there really is still no actual decent use. I don't know how many people check it, but I know and see it as a channel that "looks" like it never updates, if I don't go in, which I never do anymore because I don't believe in leaderboards.

But if you already don't go in and look at it, and you pretty much ignore it... Then what do you care if it's up or not? It sounds to me like since you never actually look at it, you wouldn't actually see a difference in your DFeedback UX

I never said I don't see it, I see it everyday as a useless piece of junk that is just taking up space, and promoting unhealthy activity. I see it everyday when I tab into the custodians category. It's pretty hard but easy to ignore.

I am keeping this issue locked, but I am providing an update to this.

Due to an bug on the leaderboard that appeared, the leaderboard is now hidden while we investigate to see what blew up and eventually launching a fix. While we are hiding the leaderboard due to the bug, we're going to see what happens with the activity as we investigate this bug.
