Aside from communication center mentioned in the other issue, there should be better distinctions for a private event (i.e. in the RSVP box add emphasis to replying).

@dpetters for employers, should private events still have a checked-in tab? should there be an RSVP not-attending tab?

Yes, for both. You do bring up a good point though - what if the event is dinner or something else casual. It's unlikely that the recruiter will bring their laptop to check those students in. I don't think it's a big deal if people don't check in in that case. But it's a good reason to develop an iphone or android app for check-ins, since the recruiter or at least one of the students will have that on them and can check people in that way.

Either way, we'll in the end up finding a way to mark those students as "attended", so I think yes, there should be the first tab.

RSVP not-attending is also important in this case because the recruiter needs to be able to distinguish between those who will not be coming and those who just hasn't seen the invite.

On a small event (which most if not all of the private events will be), attendance tracking isn't critical, because the professionals at the event will remember whose there easily. In particular this is true, if firms use private events the way I expect them to which is to interact with really high potential candidates, hence recruiters will easily remember. With that said, allowing check-in can't hurt. Maybe we even indicate in the area where names would normally be displayed on the check-in tab that check-in was never enabled.

I agree that there should definitely be a way to RSVP no for a private event, and we should make it very clear to students how they can do it. We want to make sure that invites to private events don't backfire for students in the sense that they can easily let employers know if they "regretfully" can not attend an event.

I also agree we should make the private event invitation special both in the email that is sent out as well as the way it appears on the website to make the student feel special/realize its exclusive.
