Adding overlays like this can interfere with the actual functionality of the keys. With that said, it will be possible to expose ingame variables to Aurora, allowing you to create such an effect (like cargo capacity) using built in tools in Aurora.
As for the status keys, on/off can be a bad idea since it can be confused with keys being inactive and disabled. Maybe a better idea would be to dim them slightly when inactive.
i like the idea of alowing Aurora to use its own tools + ingame variables to create a status overlay.
as for the on/off vs diming, i think dimming is fine however i was sort of pitchuring using this in a senario where the keyboard is not being used for input and just for status display.
in the java app i would sometimes comment out parts of the commandgroups file to remove all but status keys like jumpdrive and lights etc when i was using my HOTAS to fly and just looking at my keyboard kind of like the dash of a car. in this case a key being "inactive" is not realy an issue
You can kind of do that now with Aurora. Simply set the key group to a different color.
thats not quite what i mean. i mean like in the default desktop profile there is a layer that shows ram usage. i mean like that but for things like fule level and cargo capacity.
this would probably not be linked to key binds but basicly im imaganing groupes of keys displaying difrent things like say the number keys being a progress bar shoing somthing like cargocapacity or temp or somthing like that. also make the status keys (like light) be on/off instead of flashing.
