Graphics/shader problems with ATI HD 5400 AMD Catalyst 12.10 #181

What steps will reproduce the problem
When i start a race i see no car shaders, the whole car is black and the road 
is also back and is see 2 white stripes. I.ve tried to play the game with te 
open source driver and the te game works well but very slow.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version are you using? On what operating system?
Kubuntu 12.10
amd x4 955
ati HD 5400 videocard
Amd catalyst 12.10 (also tried 12.9 and 12.6)

Please pick any relevant labels like Component or OpSys related to problem.
* If game crashed please include log files: game.cfg, log.txt, ogre.log,
MyGUI.log (editor.cfg, ogre_ed.log for Editor) right after crash, found in
game's user folder (see section Config in Wiki page Paths).

Looks like some of the shaders fail to compile. Please provide log files 
game.cfg, log.txt, ogre.log found in game's user folder (see section Config in 
Wiki page Paths).

As a work around, you could try different settings presets and changing options 
to see if some combination works. If that is the case, we'd additionally like 
the game.cfg with the bug and without it.

Also, what is the version of Stunt Rally you are using and if it is not 1.8, 
try that.

I've tried different settings and options but nothing work. this picture was 
taken with minimum effects. When i turn on more effects the screen only get 
worse. tommorow i will look for the files game.cfg, log.txt, ogre.log i'm using 
version 1.8

This looks for me like there was no memory to load textures or something. I 
don't see why road, car body and barrel is black and other not. Those white are 
tire trails btw.

Does this happen exactly the same on other tracks ? Or eg. do small tracks load 
and bigger crash ?

yes on every track i've got the same issue. But not when i drive on a bridge. 
The bridge is not black.

As a temporary fix you can try to change "shader_mode =" to "shader_mode = cg" 
in game.cfg

@scrawl: Since that fix is in a data file, couldn't he just apply the patch 
manually?

Thanks for your help i've tried the changes above.

But now i've set the video presets very low and now the screen is much better. 
i turned of the shaders and now  i see a normal car with colors etc. The only 
problem now is that i see black shadows in the horizon. I've tried all the 
setings and it's getting but it won't dissapear. Some tracks don't have this 
broblem. For example the racing tracks.

Right, this is the problem with dds for terrain, which have some compression 
that is wrong on some ati cards or sth like this. we will conver them to png's.
At least thats what we think it is.
